David Hockney

David Hockney created photo collages and montages of everyday scenes creating large pieces of his perseption of what he saw. His work was very effective and showed imagination and skill, they also would of taken great times and effort to create each small piece then for it together to make an abtract, two dimensional reflection of what he saw. I like this piece and think the way each piece is individual but joins up to make this is very clever and the whole art has texture and tone to make it look real and proportional.

shape

Shape

This photograph uses shape by making the silhouette of the frog look two dimetional showing all only the outline of its shape. I like this effect as the two contrast of the shadow and the green leave stands out.

This again uses shape with the silhouette of the two elephants and creates orgaic shape also of a heart, symbolising peace and love. I love the warm orange colours and gives off tranquility and someone who has traveled.

This picture I've taken uses shape as the very dark tree looks 2D and look like a shadow, this effect makes the sky pop out of the picture and is the focal point. The two colours are also complimentry and contrast against the black landscape.

repetition

Repetition

This artist Andy Warhol uses repetition to create this famous piece of Marilyn Monroe, which is very eye-catching and vibrant. This abstract piece uses high colour saturation which creates tone and highlights all the features of her face. Form is also created with the shaded parts giving the piece dimensions, it also creates emphasize on the actress and making her the focal point.

He uses repetition again in this can peice witch contrasting colours which again catch the eye, colour saturation is higher in this piece.  The pice is a lot more two dimensional and uses pattern with the repeated image created in different colours.

This picture I've taken of autumn leaves shows repetition with the repeated leaves scattered across, I like the warm orange and red colours which makes it feel wintery. I also like the focus on the close up leaves with the rest blurred in the background giving it an abstract look.

Form

Form
In this photo using form is shown well as the bridge type rock is taken at an angle making it look 3D and not flat. The sunlight hitting certain sections of the rocks again adds form, and this adds depth and texture also. The vibrant orange of the rock catches the eye and compliments the blue sky.

This photo has been taken at an angle to give it three dimensions and has good form overall. I like the way it looks very real and rustic, and the tired paint gives it an ages deserted feel to the picture. There are lots of textures in the piece also which I like and it's all very natural and organic.

This picture of lots of lady birds captures the light well to show form effectively, by instead of giving it a flat look makes it come out of the picture. Depth is also created in this image by the blurred too third of the photograph which enhances the form of all the other insects. The deal oranges and reds give a warm mood to the whole photograph.

This picture I've taken of a flower uses the light to create form, and the water droplets also bounce of light which enhances it also. The bottom third is also blurred to draw the eye to the vibrant flower and also show long depth and make the flower seem large compared to the levee at the bottom. The bright constrasting colours also catch the eye and create excitement.

This picture I took of a cactus shows form by focusing on the detail of the cactus and blurring the whole background. This shows the long spikes and fine hairs they each have which makes it look real and textured.

Angle has shown the form well when I took this and it displays all the intricate carvings and marks made in the stone. The light also catches parts of the stone to make it look even more three dimensional. The metallic colours give a very man made skilled look and also a gothic feel.

Shoes

Shoes
I took this picture inspired by the artist  Pol Ubeda Hervàs and I think it looks effective as the shadow gives the effect it's almost wearing the trainers. The contrast of light worked well to give a bold shadow which shows the bright orange of the shoe. Also the dark empty space also adds drama to the picture as if something could appear beneath it.

This photograph I took of hanging shoes from a branch I thought was a different way of presenting them and also catches the eye. The bright blue sky also contrasts well with the natural green pine, and then white shoes show tones from where the light hits them.

Another picture I've taken inspired by Blanc looks bizarre and unusual, and gives they illusion the feet are bigger then the body. Also the use of a black and white filter shoes of the various tones to the photograph. Also the angle it has been taken at give a vast depth by the lines in the flooring and how the sunlight stream through.

This photo from online has been cleverly taken using the reflection of the man in the water and then maybe using photoshop they have got rid of the body. I like this picture becuase it's unusual and clever, and the space around makes the image simple with no distractions.

This piece from the artist Lou Blanc inspired some of my pictures, and think The tones look very effective also and the angle it's taken  makes it very creative giving it interesting form and shape.

Space

Photography using space

This picture i found online uses negative space to highlight the vibrant and almost metallic insect. The abstract background is really effective and the rule of thirds is used with the main subject in the top third. It's also effective as the background has no distracting elements so all focus is on the insect.

This picture using a vast area as space which has in the case worked quite well, as it has created a great depth and shows the contrast of the sky against the landscape.

In this picture the rule of thirds is broken as the horizon is through the centre but is does work well in this and adds drama and a sense of eeriness. Also the black and white filter shows off different tones boldly.

This picture I took uses the blurred background as empty space and focuses on the bright red chillies. The space has again creates depth to the image and makes it look very natural and abstract.

This picture I've taken of a freshly cut hay field uses space effectively as it gives a peaceful and still atmosphere. The monochrome colours also shows the various tones well. The fine detail is also highlighted well from the simple space of the background which draws the eye to the corn on the ground. The space also adds a vast depth to the photo.

This picture I've taken of a sunset uses space to focus the sky and the warm mellow colours. It also uses the rule of thirds with the horizon in the bottom third of the photo. The deep dark landscape contrasts with the vibrant sky and the saturation here is high to give impact.

self portrait

self portrait

Vivian Maier
Vivian's work was discovered decades after she past away, and a lot of her work involved self portraits which involved the camera being visible within the photo. She used effects such as central image in focus hen the remainder was blurred. Or repetition was a common feature used with mirrors that were focused, and used a mixed of black and white and also colour photography. Her setting she picked were often everyday and informally dressed.

In this photo she uses reflection from other mirrors to bounce her reflection onto other mirrors and add interest for the eye. Black and white is used giving it an old vintage look, and adds a range of tones. Black and white also draws the eye to the subject where as colour can distract the eye, it can also add texture and light can be seen bouncing off objects better.

This photo has a central focus point and then the foreground has been blurred to draw the eye into the wing mirror. The shiny car surface also reflects off the sun showing tones and making it look more 3D. The wing mirror also creates a fish eye effect to the photo which adds interest and makes it unique. The red from the child's hat also contrasts and catches the eye. the camera in the centre also draws attention to the main subject which is Vivian. The picture has a happy feel witch children playing and smiling in the reflection.

My self portraits
I wanted to emulate Vivian's work by taking a picture into a reflective object, the almost transparent sunglasses lens also adds effect as you can almost see through in parts but still see the reflection. it worked well because it quite unique and a different way to take a self portrait, but to improve the photograph I could of used background space more effectively so its not so cluttered.

shutter speed

This picture uses low shutter speed to create this meandering effect of the lights on the winding road, which means its had a higher exposure to light. The fast movement of the lights has been captured to create this distorted effect called motion blur, which I think looks exciting and as if the lights are moving.

This picture uses fast shutter speed to catch the sharp sprays of the strawberry showing the finest details the human eye would miss in real life. It has also received  a low exposure to light

Aperture

This photograph uses low aperture as the image is brighter and focuses on the closer object of the rain drops, making the daisy in the background blurred. I like this effect because it highlights the detail of the rain and still shows the daisy's through the droplets which catches the eye. larger aperture creates a shorter depth which is effective if your highlighting a close objects or just a focused background.

Where as the photograph uses high aperture making the image slightly darker but allows you to focus close up and also in the distance. The smaller aperture allows are larger focused depth so works well for land scape photos, drawing the eye to lots of sections of the photograph.
Ios speed

Ios speed controls how sensitive the camera is to light, so like shutter speed changes the amount of light exposure. A lower speed
works most effectively normally as a higher setting increases image noise.

colour

photography using colour

This picture I've taken of a morning sunrise looks really effective with the warm yellow and orange tones that move across the bottom of the photograph that then compliment the blue tones above. I also like how the sun shines across the field making it orange and green tones, giving a warm and calm mood. The colour saturation is medium in richness as the colour although bright are still shuttle giving it a dreamy and softer look. The neutral fields and crops draw attention to the brighter colour in the sky. Also the sun on the right is the main subject point as the sun rays draw out from this in diagonal rays which the eyes follow.

This picture I took of a dragonfly against the water, I found was really effective as the red of the tail complimented the reflected blue sky in the water using analogous colours. the colour saturation is fairly high here showing off the bright natural colours and I love how the sunlight hits different parts of the photograph highlighting sections in the water and also on the wings making them look shimmery but still translucent. the diagonal line of the wood and water cuts picture showing different textures and colours which also creates contrast. Also the dragonfly is the centred subject, which is a classical balance, making this the focus point that draws the eye. The background has a blurred effect focusing on the main subject making it stand out which could mean it was taken at a slow shutter speed. the bright colours could also reflect life, excitement and frenzy.

The composition I took of a leafy plant I thought overall was intriguing, by the intense colours of the leaves which contain the analogous colours again, and also thought they were almost electrifying and added drama to the photo. The colour saturation is high again and the whole look is very rich an vibrant. Also the focus is on the leaves making them stand out against the blurred effect of the grass. The pinks, yellow and greens are bright so convey happiness, and the leaves come from a diagonal across the whole picture making them the focal point.

I found this picture of a red eyed tree frog, and really liked how he stands out so boldly against the red flower. The picture catches the eye by the complimentary colours, and conveys a sense of danger with the red. The colour saturation is high in this picture because of the rich reds and luminous green.it also uses a centred subject making that the focal point, then the rest blank space around it. The natural light also hits parts of the frog making it look smooth and shiny.

This picture of a city street with a fast moving bus is using monochrome colours in the back ground then the original colours on the bus which works really effectively, creating drama and making the picture very original and stand out. The shutter speed also must of been very slow which creates the blurred effect of the bus which I also like because it makes the picture seem alive and busy. The black and white buildings could suggest they have aged overtime, where as the bright bus shows more modern technology, fast moving and fast developing.

This photograph of an Asian style authentic building and vibrant sunset, is very effective and I love all the bright colours reflecting on the water and make it seem on fire, the right side of the photo suggests warmth with the pinks and oranges and the left side with the blues seems colder. The saturation is very enriched making it unique and eye catching. I also like how the building on the river looks as if it's floating which adds a dreamy side to the photograph making it look hypothetical. The photo is split into the 3 sections using the rule of thirds, whilst placing the main subject of the building two thirds of the way through the image making it the focal point.
